Description
Join the thousands who have experienced dramatic weight loss, lowered cholesterol, and improvement or reversal of the damages of heart disease, adult-onset diabetes, and other major diseases by following this medically proven program. Protein Power will teach you how to use food as a tool for
- Dramatic and permanent weight loss
- Resetting your metabolism and boosting your energy levels
- Lowering your "bad" cholesterol levels while elevating the "good"
- Protecting yourself from "The Deadly Diseases of Civilization" (including high blood pressure and heart disease)
And best of all, Protein Power encourages you to
- Eat the foods you love, including meats (even steaks, bacon, and burgers), cheeses, and eggs
- Rethink the current wisdom on fat intake (science has shown that fat does not make you fat!)
- Stop shocking your body with breads, pastas, and other fat-inducing carbohydrates
So prepare yourself for the most dramatic life-enhancing diet program available!
If smoked salmon and cream cheese omelets, sautéed jumbo shrimp, and double-patty burgers suit your palate, belly up to the Protein Power diet: "Not a high protein diet" but "an adequate protein diet." Doctors Michael R. and Mary Dan Eades make a persuasive case in favor of "the diet we were meant to eat." Similar to Dr. Robert Atkins's New Diet Revolution, the authors cite insulin as the main culprit in weight gain and expound the benefits of a diet extremely low in carbohydrates. Carbohydrates, which are changed into sugar during digestion, stimulate the body to store fat, making weight loss virtually impossible. The most revolutionary idea put forth in Protein Power is that the fat you eat has very little bearing on the fat you gain: in other words, we aren't what we eat after all. Researchers have found that eating larger portions of protein in conjunction with severely reduced portions of carbohydrates causes people to burn the excess fat stored in their bodies. Protein Power is packed with helpful charts and formulas, so you can estimate your body-fat percentage and your ideal weight for your particular body composition. There are worksheets to calculate your protein need and carbohydrate and protein equivalency charts, as well as charts that allow you to track your fat and weight loss. But this book is not all grams and percentages: it also shows you what a day of eating on this diet would look like and includes sample menus and 70 pages of recipes. If you've been starving yourself for years and just can't seem to lose weight, this may be the diet for you. --Jhana Bach

Changed My Life !!!
This book changed my life ! I followed it without straying for two months without working out and the weight really came off. Then i leveled off, but started to lift weights and run three days a week and started losing extremely fast again. I started in April 2009 at 310 lbs, by the end of August 2009 i was 235 . . . simply amazing !!!

It's all about the science.
My wife tried many diets but until reading books in the low carb category (and Protein Power is her favorite) she hadn't realized that a "diet" was not the answer. The Drs. Eades advice is informative and not the abrasive, inflexible style of Atkins. For the first time my wife began asking me about the low carbohydrate science versus all the anecdotes and advertisements she heard all her life concerning what wholesome food is. There are many claims by those who benefit financially with a diet program that they claim is proven effective in a clinical trial or study. Very few of the claims would survive a standard peer review. The bottom line is body chemistry and science, not anecdotes and starving. Nor is it simply calories.
The most difficult part of lowering your carbohydrate intake is the cultural change and the will power to do it. Other than the books we bought, there is no vested interest for anyone to take our money for a weight loss program. It's free. Sure, we treat ourselves with a few carbs here and there but it's only a treat. Weight loss is not the only reason for a low carb regime. Based on the improving results of my physicals during the first ten years of low carb, it is just simply healthier. We just follow the science, buy different groceries, we tend to want to eat less, LDL has dropped significantly, and blood pressure is great. It is a life-long commitment to a lifestyle. It's not a "diet" to be used occasionally to shed a few pounds.

The best starting point for a better way of eating
I had never been on a "diet" when I started searching on amazon for eating advice. I knew the basic typical nutritional beliefs, the food pyramid, etc, but it never felt quite right to me. I had many friends who did atkins for a period of time that had success, but always fell of the wagon so I started there: low carb "diets". I found fabulous reviews of this book that were more centered around healthy living and relief from serious medical conditions. Though I started out wanting to lose weight primarily, after reading this book it became the beginning of a life long road to better health.
This book will explain why those typical nutritional tenets are incorrect: high carb, low fat, etc being the best diet. It will make sense to you. You will have an "ah ha!" moment.
This book will explain to you the history, science, and health benefits to eating this way.
This book will help you find your natural ideal weight range & your minimum daily protein intake.
This book will give you recipes, meal plans, and make it seem attainable.
I started on protein power and had good success weight-wise, energy-wise, mood-wise, & body-composition-wise. I've lost 24.5lbs in 9 weeks and feel totally different!
I've continued my research and learned more about what my own body wants (everyone is different) and continue to tweak things here and there. I am moving more in the direction of very low to zero carb eating and chronic fasting. This is what my body is responding to and asking for.
Though my current way of eating is becoming different from their wider-brush-stroke method, I credit this book and Dr. Eade's blog to helping me learn about fasting and true good nutrition. This book got me on the right track with facts, encouragement, and flexibility.
I absolutely recommend this book to anyone that is ready to truly commit to finding the most healthy eating lifestyle for them.

Great
I love everything written by Dr Eades. I thought Atkins did a great job going into the science and why you should eat this way, but Dr Eades takes it a notch higher giving even more detail. If you truly want to be healthy, lose weight, and understand why this is the ONLY diet you should ever eat for the rest of your life, read his stuff. And Dr Atkins' stuff too. and Primal Blueprint. and The Cholesterol Myth (boring but good information).

Excellent Book
In a nutshell, losing weight is not numeric (counting calories) but hormonal, i.e insulin control.

The Protein Power Lifeplan
If you are counting carbs, this is the little book to have. It is small and fits in just about anything. So many food items still do not have a label on them and this book covers those for you.

Somethings hard to find. Need more prepared food in there. Besides the diet really screwed up my body. Try Weight Watchers and exercise instead.

limited, but easy to use
I am still looking for a really good complete carb counter for home cooking. Because I would use it mostly at home, I am not so concerned with the size, but more with the ease of use (meaning that I can find the info I want quickly) and having a large variety of the basic forms of foods listed. So far I find the The Protein Power Lifeplan Gram Counter to be the easiest book of its kind to use. Also, there are even not-so-common varieties of fruits, vegetables, and nuts listed. In my ideal book I would like more, especially in more forms and quantities, though this is good here for a small book. One good aspect is that in addition to carb counts the Eads book lists Omega 6 & 3 values, and has special, easily found, pages on particularly desirable foods (such as high vitamin C, magnesium, E, and biggest bang for the buck foods). I appreciate those extras when planning meals ahead, including deciding what to buy at the grocery store.

The Protein Power Lifeplan
List Price:

Description
The authors of Protein Power are back to advocate the "protein-rich, moderate-fat, carbohydrate-restricted diet" that opposes the high-carbohydrate, low-fat diet that every professional medical and dietetic organization (including those who have no diet books to sell) believes to be your best bet for avoiding heart disease, the number one killer. The authors insist, in the face of all this medical opposition, that "the whole idea that fat and cholesterol cause heart disease is just that: an idea." We're meant to be hunters, say the authors: bring on the meat. Let's go back to the Paleolithic diet (no mention of the brief life span of Paleolithic men and women). The Protein Power Lifeplan is not easy reading--most of the book is made up of scientific explanations, research summaries and interpretations, and nutritional warnings--but no recipes. Besides recommending eating protein and fat, the authors recommend sunbathing without sunblock (but "never, never let your skin burn!") and exercises such as "bringing home the buffalo" and "defending the camp." The authors admit that if you're trying to lose weight, you have to limit calories, but if you're not, you can "munch on nuts, seeds, nut butters, cheeses, jerky, guacamole, and olives all day long."Carbohydrates, say the authors, "are totally nonessential to your health and well-being"--words to make dieticians and cardiologists shudder.

Finally, a book that doesn't say just "how," but instead proves "why."
I bought this book when it came out, and to this day it remains the most life-changing book I've ever read.
The authors give you a miniature medical degree, using basic facts found in standard medical texts to arrive at logically inescapable conclusions that make complete sense and echo what you see with your own eyes, on your own blood tests and on your own bathroom scale.
Your health will improve, you'll feel better in many different ways, and you'll not only be able to tell people what you're doing, but why---which is infinitely more valuable.
If you have a logical mind and want bedrock truth once and for all, you will be overjoyed to have finally found it.

Outstanding diet book for diabetes and other health issues
Following the advice in this book changed my health for the better. I've been able to control diabetes and lower cholesterol and triglicerides. I find this diet to be healthy and one that I can maintain as a lifelong style of eating. It includes enough variety for me to feel satisfied, and I feel it's healthier than some of the other low carb diets out there.
My wife eats according to the guidelines of this book as well. She is dealing with a number of health issues, and this diet has clearly made a difference.
The book is easy to understand, and it makes the eating plan easy to follow. I recommend this book all the time.

Lost 20 pounds and still losing.
I have battled the bulge for years.
This book explains how the diet works, and suggests alternative foods, and other readings.
Feel much better, and I don't cheat on the diet because I don't feel hungry.
Highly recommended to people that really want to lose weight but have not had results cutting calories and exercising.
