George Stephen R
Near Dead
DescriptionCustomer ReviewsA MUSTYou've got to make yourself read this novel. It is filled with suspense and originality. Stephen R. George should be a household name. His pen crackles with excitement as it takes us on a bumpy ride to the unkown where colorful characters fight to stay alive in the presence of "others", some of which aren't always welcome. You'll be entraced from page one.-----Martin Boucher I've read this 5 times! Great light read. However, it is out of print now but hey what can you do. This author is also under the name Jack Ellis which would be easier to find. Look for him. Good author. Great horror thriller. Taylor Holdman has some unwanted visitors: His wife and daughter who were murdered by a psychopath three years ago, are appearing before him at work and on the street, still bleeding from their wounds and trying to communicate with him. Only Taylor can see them and his sanity is beginning to unravel. "He's killing again, Daddy" his daughter tells him. Marilyn Briggs, a shy medium, is also experiencing these manifestations. Together, the two of them reach out to the otherside and find a legion of victims seeking revenge on the serial killer who took their lives. But the killer knows he's being watched and something dark and evil is protecting him and the body count is rising... This is an outstanding horror thriller from an underappreciated author. Stephen R. George is a fantastic storyteller and knows what horror fans want. Highly recommended, along with three others of his novels: NIGHTSCAPE, BLOODY VALENTINE, and DARK REUNION.
Nightscape
DescriptionDetermined to destroy the creatures who killed his brother, Shep Thomas decides to let eight-year-old Evan--a little boy haunted by the gruesome beings--lead him to their world. Original.Customer Reviewscreepy! If you ever want to venture into obscure horror books, read this one first! I highly recommend it for any horror fan out there. Outstanding. I'm always singing the praises of Stephen George to anybody who will listen and NIGHTSCAPE is one of my favorite books from this hugely under-appreciated author. A young boy, reunited with his mother after many years, is pursued by a bizarre cult. The boy and his mother, along with a tortured man who is out for revenge for the cult's murder of his brother, find themselves at odds with the mysterious group that seem to be everywhere. The closer they get, the less human the cult appears to be, and the young boy starts to go through a bizarre transformation as he is seduced by it's members. This is a startlingly original, wildly suspenseful book, and a great introduction to Mr. George's work. If you appreciate horror with a fantastic edge, do yourself a favor and seek this book out. You'll be glad you did. And just like me, you'll find yourself hunting down the rest of his work after you do. Aswome suspense, gets you on the edge of your seat. Evan evolves in more than one way here. This book is not only sci-fi but a mystery and a thriller.with this book you can escape into a whole other place. Very descriptive If it is detail you want this book has it. It is a great Sci-fi type book. It is a great book for someone who likes gory books
Pathways to Personal Growth: Adjustment in Today's World
DescriptionThe personal and social factors involved in learning about ourselves, setting personal goals, taking control of our lives, and becoming a contributing member of society are main issues examined by this book. Itmaintains its general focus on identifying the basic issues facing people as they attempt to adjust to today's society. The volume is written in a reader-friendly manner that combines conversation with clear descriptions of theories and research. It is illustrated with current examples and cases, and is based on the authors' experiences as psychological researchers and practitioners. The authors have succeeded in their aim to produce a volume that identifies the most important issues of adjustments, illustrates the relevant literature on the issues, is readable and engaging for students, and makes learning an enjoyable experience. A chapter on substance abuse and the family reflects the current issues faced in today's environment. Also, a new chapter on gender reflects the significant issues of changing sex roles, new opportunities, employment opportunities for women, and recent legal decisions that have raised new issues and pressures on both men and women. Psychologists and family therapists.sCustomer ReviewsNot Too PleasedThe book had a large amount of underlining, writing, and highlighting! These are the things that I try to avoid when I purchase a used book! they are distracting for me when I am reading, a few pages I wouldn't mind, but this was throughout the entire book.
Grandma's Little Darling
DescriptionCustomer ReviewsNot very frighteningHow the character's get together in the book is a rather old cliche from perhaps the 50's, 60's or 70's but the premise was wonderful and the writing is well done, IMO. However I believe the writer gives too much away from the beginning.
Deadly Vengeance (Zebra Books)
List Price: $4.50 DescriptionAfter the death of Alan's brother Will, their father brings home Cobalt, a mysterious dog with glowing blue eyes that seems to know all of Alan's innermost secrets, including the truth about Will's death. By the author of Nightscape. Original.Customer ReviewsGood bookI really enjoyed this book as an adult and my first time reading as a kid. It's a "horror" story of a boy who's brother was killed by fellow teenagers. They scared him into secerecy and remind him of their evil secret with frequent beatings. Alan's father brings home Colbalt hoping to pull Alan out of his shell. AS the story progresses Alan and Colbalt seem to have a very unatural bond between them. They can feel eachother's feelings and emotions and feed off each other. Eventually Colbalt will take care of the hatered Alan feels towards the gang who killed his brother. A secret is revealed about Colbalt later on explaining a bit why he is they way he is. The ending is hard, despite the killings the dog does, you can't help but love him and his loyalty to Alan. I never considered this a horror novel as it was never scarey to me, just a good book with suspense. It is graphic in the killings and sex scenes. Chilling, evil dog story This is a really good book. The plotline is a little like Cujo, but so much better. The fact that the dog is evil, and so ominous, really heightens the fear in this one. Definitely check it out--you'll never look at your family pet the same way again. George Stephen R News![]()
