Loved it!!!
I really enjoyed this whole series! Wish there were more, they were so hard to put down...and I was so disappointed when they were done! Hatcher is a very skilled author, and I always look for anything new from her, first!
Nice Plot Twists, Okay Characters
RLH certainly knows how to throw her poor characters for some crazy loops. That's how life is, so I love the realism. The "letter" chapters were all right; I liked the uniqueness of them. The characters seemed to learn alot, but overall, they struck me as too typical of the romantic, chick-flick lit sort of people.

Promised to Me
Another winner by Robin Lee Hatcher. We need more exciting Christian novels. Many people might think because it is a Christian novel that it is devoid of action and suspense but this is not so at all.
Promises to Keep You Up All Night
I read a lot of books. Rarely does a book keep me up all night, but this one did. Karola Breit grows in the Lord and in maturity, as she cares for the children of a man who broke his promise to bring her to America and marry her 10 years earlier. While she refuses to marry him her first day in Shadow Creek, Idaho, she cannot refuse to care for his three motherless children, while he gathers his harvest. I can't wait to read the rest of the series--I love prairie romance and immigration in the late 1800s stories, and this fits that bill beautifully.
Learned something new
I love the message Karola Breit recognizes within herself, that she is making strong, healthy choices that will guide her life. Karola grows from an immature girl to the woman who knows her own heart. And when she makes mistakes along the way, she is able to look around and realize that everyone makes those same mistakes. It is this humanity and genunine human spirit I love in Robin Lee Hatcher's books. Her characters do not so much change overnight as they realize their mistakes and are able to grow, and hey - it's a book! "Promised to Me" is my favorite of the Coming to America series...so far.

The Sisters of Bethlehem Springs series delivers exactly what readers have been waiting for---smart, confident women who are not afraid to defy convention, live their own dreams, and share their lives if the right man comes along. In A Matter of Character, book three in the Sisters of Bethlehem Springs series, it's 1918, and Daphne McKinley, heiress to a small fortune, has found contentment in the town of Bethlehem Springs. But Daphne has a secret. A series of dime novels loosely based on local lore and featuring a nefarious villain known as Rawhide Rick has enjoyed modest popularity among readers. Nobody in Bethlehem Springs knows the man behind the stories ... except Daphne. When newspaperman Joshua Crawford comes to town searching for the man who sullied the good name of his grandfather, Daphne finds herself at a crossroads, reassessing the power of her words, re-thinking how best to honor her gifts, and reconsidering what she wants out of life.

Refreshing, Historical Inspirational! A Matter of Character by Robin Lee Hatcher
A MATTER OF CHARACTER by Robin Lee Hatcher is an Inspirational Historical set in St. Louis, Missouri and Bethlehem Springs, Missouri. It is a refreshing, historical with romance, understanding, faith, coming to terms with the truth of a loved one's life as a young man into adulthood. It is well written with depth and detail. It is the third and last in The Sisters of Bethlehem Springs series, but can be read as a stand alone. The hero has a temper, and is out to find the truth about his grandfather, who has been written into a dime novel, not in the best of light. He is a villain. He learns the truth is not always want you want it to be and what you believe to be true. He also falls in love along the way, with the writter no less. The heroine is a determined, strong willed young women who writes dime novels under a man's name. She will also find that all is not as it seems and of course falls in love. This is a tender story of faith, romance, and family. If would highly recommend this story. If you have not read the other two in this series, I would also recommend reading them ( Book #1 A Vote of Confidence, and Book #2 Fit To Be Tied). This is a fast paced, page turning must read. A keeper. This book was received for review and details can be found at My Book Addiction and More and Zondervan.
Surprisingly good!
I really enjoyed getting to know the main character Daphne McKinley. Being an author she was a woman after my own heart. However, she writes dime novels, which were looked upon as frivolous writing - not to be taken seriously. The nemesis in her books is loosely based on a character named Rawhide Rick. Because Daphne comes from a family of wealth she does not want anyone to know what she does in her spare time. So she holds this secret close to her heart.

Joshua Crawford finds out that the books written by D. B. Morgan aka Daphne, have portrayed his grandfather, Richard Terrell,(Rawhide Rick) in a not so favorable light. He sets out to find this D. B. Morgan and is determined to make him write a retraction. You can imagine his surprise when he finds out that the real author is Daphne. He is even more surprised to learn that his grandfather has a past that he did not know about - this was before Richard Terrell became a Christian.

Daphne and Joshua find that they both have to re-evaluate what is important to them in their lives. In the meantime they begin to have feelings for each other and this seems to go well until- Joshua's fiancée' enters the picture. I really enjoyed reading this book even though it was not my favorite genre. This is the third book in the series, but was great as a stand alone book. I would love to go back and read the first two. Looks like I found a new author to read!
One of my favorites
This is one of my favorites of Robin's books. I loved this book! I think Daphne is my favorite character of hers. Robin's characters are so real. Daphne faces a dilemma and has to make some tough decisions about truth and honesty. I really enjoy the historical details Robin includes in her books. You really get a feel for the time period. This is the third book in a very satisfying series about three women of Bethlehem Springs. All strong, confident women who are brave enough to take on non-traditional roles. Daphne is such a fun character. There is one scene that is so funny but I can't really share the details without spoiling it. You will just have to read it for yourself. I am looking forward to re-reading the series.
My favorite in the series...
A Matter of Character was a fabulous conclusion to an endearing series. In fact, it's my favorite book of the three. I really appreciate how all of Robin's books in this series were set in Idaho and that they all focused on women with unique situations. It was fun getting to know Daphne. Her personality was perfect for an author, and her discovery of true love was beautiful. I thought it was neat how she realized that while she wrote about falling in love, until she experienced it herself, she had no idea how powerful the emotion could be.

It was hilarious how Daphne handled things at times, too, like when she added a character to her book to torment when she was mad at Joshua. That was a real hoot. I also found the hero, Joshua, to be an all-around great guy even with his flaws. He was a decent person and that was probably why he struggled with setting things straight. I loved that he didn't want to hurt anyone, though sometimes delaying the inevitable hurts people more.

There were many tender moments in this story and some awesome kisses, too. The best part for me was how it became an enjoyable escape for a few days. It's the perfect CBA romance because it was fun, clean, and had just the right amount of romantic tension to draw you into the romance without it overpowering the rest of the story. Robin is a truly amazing storyteller. Did I mention that I thoroughly enjoyed this final book in the series? I love it when the characters become my friends.
Final book in Sisters of Bethlehem trilogy is sweetly romantic
A Matter of Character by Robin Lee Hatcher is the third and final book in the Sisters of Bethlehem Springs series. Daphne McKinley loves her life in 1918 Idaho. She lives independently while spending plenty of time with her brother and sister-in-law and their two adorable children, and she just happens to secretly write dime novels about the Old West, including a villain called Rawhide Rick who she based on a real man she's heard stories about. Joshua Crawford has come to Bethlehem Springs seeking the author D.B. Morgan who has written several stories about his grandfather Richard Terrrell, aka Rawhide Rick, to force the author to retract the stories and to prove that Richard was a wonderful man of God, but when he meets Daphne his plan gets a little off track as he falls in love with her jubilant spirit and intelligence. A desperate illness throws the two together in enforced intimacy, bringing their hidden feelings to the surface. Can their romance survive the revelation that Daphne is the author of the books about Rawhide Rick or will a secret from Joshua's past destroy their growing relationship? Hatcher's writing is always a joy to read with strong handsome men, beautiful, intelligent women, and intriguing stories that pull them together and apart. I did think that the cabin scene happened a little too early in the story, because everything after that felt a bit stretched. This trilogy about Gwen, Chloe, and Daphne comes to a natural end with this volume filled with romance, faith, and humor.

All I have to say is LOVE IT! LOVE IT! LOVE IT!
Definetly a must read!! i would suggest this book to ANYONE

Excellent
This is a fun book that is very easy to follow. It is a quick read. I was a little surprised by the "Parent Trap" inuiendos and I suspect that the series will finish along those lines but I am always glad for a happy ending so that is okay.
Disappointing
I did not like this book. For all it's talk about woman's rights and being independent, certain moments of this book were anything but. For instance, the storm scene with Morgan and Gwen. And the whole part where Gwen gets mad at Morgan because he wants to keep her safe. I don't understand how Morgan wanting to keep Gwen safe is demeaning to Gwen, or why she would get all defensive. Would it have mattered if Cleo had told Gwen that she was worried and didn't want Gwen to do something? No, Gwen got huffy because it was Morgan, a man, and in this book, the strong, independent lead female is convinced that everything a man does has to originate with their innate urge to control and coddle. Please. I was hoping for something more.
All the Ingredients for a Fun Romance.
With a dash of political intrigue, a pinch of adventure, and a heap of romance and humor, Robin Lee Hatcher created the makings for a great turn of the century historical novel. As winter approaches it's a great curl-up-by-the-fire humorous romance. I can't wait to sit down tonight and begin to read her next book in the Sisters of Bethlehem series, "Fit to Be Tied".Fit to Be Tied (Sisters of Bethlehem Springs, The)

The Perfect Life Disrupted!
I had a bit of a problem connecting with the main character, Katherine Clarkson. Her she is supposidly head-over-heels in love with her husband, in a perfect marriage, having a perfect life, but when the very first thing comes along and disrupts it ... she falters and questions her husband????? I just don't understand that ... I guess I am looking at it from a woman that has been married for 40 years this year to a man that I am head-over-heels in love with ... and I know that I would believe him. Heartbroken over the accusations ... of course ... but actually not believe him .. that is a whole different thing! You stand by your man ... if you truly love him ... you either belive him or not! It was a good book ... just had trouble connecting with her ... felt more connection with the younger daughter ... was ticked off with the older daughter ... I can't imagine either one of our adult children questioning their father's integrity ... but who knows ... maybe some people just live different lives than we do. Yes, I live in the real world ... but we are true to each other ... our belief's are sound! Thank heaven's that is what has held our marriage together during the difficult times (health, children struggles, parent's dying, financial, etc. but you have to work at a marriage ... shock that is what makes it work ...whether you have been married a year or 40-50 years or more!

Made me really appreciate my marriage and my husband and children!
Good, well written, but...
OK, this book was good and well written. Great plot. I was really disappointed that the characters didn't talk to each other much. There are the accusations from Nicole, and Katherine and Brad never really talked about it. Katherine went through her crisis in her mind; we got into her thought-life well. The communication wasn't there so it was "interesting" how it all got resolved!! Her time alone was important and how God spoke to her there, but to see she and Brad work it out would have been interesting. And the ending seemed idealistic--he didn't actually cheat--lucky her!!
Over Done
I have always liked Mrs. Hatcher's books but this one wanted to make me "gag". How could a women who has been married 25 years not know her husband's heart? She thought him "guilty" by a women who is not a Christian. What I found discusting is the book went on and on and on with Kat's pointing a finger at her husband. He was guilty because he's a man and men will stray. This book points the finger that all men are guilty until proven innocent. Reality no one has a perfect life w/o problems and this one was a major one. I thought Mrs. Hatcher should have written more about Brad and how he felt with his wife's rejection. What about his faith? He is innocent but she believes he is guilty because that twit said he is. Believe Nichole instead of her husband. Not all men are going to cheat. Not all men are like John Edwards.
This book will change you
You will not be able to read this book and not be changed in some way. I cried as Katherine's 'perfect world' crumbled around her in one crisis after another. Then I wanted to shake her till her teeth rattled. Cried some more, wanted to shake or slap a few other people, while rooting for the four key people involved. Katherine, her husband, Brad, and their two daughters, Hayley and Emma. And one other person I wanted to rip off her face. But I won't go there.

Many of us, as Christians, or what we believe ourselves to be, know how to walk the walk and talk the talk. But how deep does it go? How will our faith hold out? Will it sustain? What about trusting? We're GOOD Christians, right? So why do bad things happen to good people?

Katherine wants to know, too, Why doesn't God just make everything go away and put things back the way they were? It's a long, painful, lonely and torturous path she follows to find the answers. By herself and for herself.

Funny thing, when I finished this book somewhere around 2:30 in the morning, I was smiling. I felt good! Because what Katherine learned helped me, too. Strengthened my faith and trust in The Only One Who has all the answers. The Only One Who can help us find our way. All we have to do is listen, then follow, trusting.

Brava, Robin Lee Hatcher. This is one book I'm keeping!

Robin Lee Hatcher is a crafter of unique stories. Her characters in this one are multi layered and well developed. Everyone has problems, challenges...we can see a bit of ourselved in these characters. The storyline is interesting and relatable. I have been a fan of Ms. Hatcher for a while now and will be for a long time.

A pleasant reminder of love
I wasn't expecting to enjoy this book as much as I did. It is an enjoyable reminder of God's love and of the importance of marriage, at any age. This is a simple read, but one definitely worth the time to take.
A sweet, touching love story.
This story is a short, cute read. I mean, if you are elderly, why wait? You know by then how to read your emotions and I don't think anyone should tell you what to do, unless you are having memory problems etc.

I really love books that have a point and aren't filled with today's nonsense and loss of morals and character. These characters touched my heart and reminded us to pray and read God's word, and then let God handle it.

I like books where everyone gets along, but there is always a bit of conflict in life. This book shows we can work through it however.

enjoyable second chance romance for the elderly
When he was eighteen, Jimmy Scott left Hart's Crossing, Idaho to join the army leaving behind his high school sweetheart Steph Carlson because he felt he was too young to marry. He married Martha and raised three children with her until she passed away three years ago. Steph wed Chuck and raised a daughter until he died last year. After fifty-two years away from his home town except for occasional visits to his parents, Jimmy moves back from Bremerton, Washington to live his final years in Hart's Crossing.

Steph and Jimmy reflect back to their first kiss when he was ten and she was nine on V-J Day. Other memories are just as fond of their times together. Although they were both happily married for decades to different spouses that they still love and cherish, these two grandparents still love one another. However, even with the Thimbleberry Quilt Club praying for this septuagenarian couple coming together, will Steph and Jimmy take that step they did not take over five decades ago?

This enjoyable second chance romance stars two likable elderly protagonists who find love though in the autumn of their lives. The key to the tale is that their deceased spouses were nice people not monsters easily forgotten once scars healed. Instead both enjoyed a fruitful loving marriage after splitting as teens and are now debating coming back together as senior citizens. The second Hart's Crossing tale (see LEGACY LANE for the previous novel) is a fine tale that emphasizes life is to be lived to the fullest at any age.

Veterans Way
They first kissed at age nine, to celebrate VJ Day. A few short years later, they fell in love in earnest, but he went off to another war and both moved on to other loves. Now, 60 years after that first kiss, Stephanie Watson and James Scott meet again, ready for each other now. Love long delayed is not denied, and it seems that God has given them a new chance for the promise they once made to come true. Not everyone is as happy about this reunion as they are. Will their second chance have to fall to the wayside?

** If you ever lost a love, the message is do not give up hope, you may find it again. Faith infuses the story from first to last. Take a leisurely walk to hope, with faith and love as your guides. **

So when charged with transforming English aristocrat Sherwood Statham from playboy into cowboy, she's totally disconcerted. So is Statham, who's never encountered a woman succeeding in a 'man's world.' Their bumpy trot into romance is frustrating, exhilarating, and ultimately heartwarming.

good read
Unbeknown to me this is the second in the Sisters of Bethlehem Springs series. I really dislike reading sequels when I have not read the first book. I was able to understand the plot, but did not get a lot of the background needed to understand the characters in detail. There is also a third book in the series coming out 2010.

Cleo is a girl comfortable on a ranch and around horses. She dislikes wearing dresses and is more comfortable in a pair of jeans.

Lord Sherwood is sent from London to live in Idaho for a year to earn his keep and understand work. He has a war injury and is need of learning the value of hard work.

Lord Sherwood, or Woody as Cleo calls him, begins working as a ranch hand on Cleo's family ranch. She despises him and wishes she did not have to train him. However as time passes she finds herself becoming more interested in him, but will royalty and a ranch girl be able to be together? You will have to read this book to find out.

Enjoyable, light read for romance lovers
I am not one to go after the typical romance novel. I don't know if I could have some of those books lying around the house for prying eyes to find. Some romance novel covers are explicit enough to cry out the need for brown wrapping.

Thankfully, this book is NOT your typical romance novel full of all things sexual. Yes, the main characters have an attraction to each other. However, they do not take it to the level of extreme lust followed by action that you see in many romance novels. Instead, you see concern over how they want to proceed. I also enjoyed the author's description of life out west during the early 20th century.

IF you are looking for all things sex in a book, then this is NOT the read for you. As the main characters are also Christian, this book is not for someone who finds that offensive.

But, if you are searching for a light read with a hint of romance, this could be the book for you.
A good, clean romance
I enjoy a good romance story, but they can be hard to find. This Christian romance story is sweet, clean, and fun to read. It is nice to find a good romance story without all the trashy stuff in regular romances. This is a book I would pass on to my sister or daughter or friends. I especially enjoyed the historic descriptions of Boise, having grown up in Idaho. This is a nice, easy afternoon read.

I am looking forward to reading more of Robin Lee Hatcher's novels! Hopefully they are all nice and clean.

I received a copy of this book free in exchange for my honest review.
Fit to be Tied - Sweet!
Fit To Be Tied by Robin Lee Hatcher, published by Zondervan, is from The Sisters of Bethlehem Springs series and retails for $14.99.

The date is 1916 and the place is in Idaho, on a ranch. In this book, "Cleo" short for Cleopatra, is a young woman who loves being on a ranch. She loves horses and has an uncanny ability to calm most horses easily. She would rather wear her pants and hat rather than a dress any day. She's just a typical "ranch hand" type of gal. Well, enter "Woody", the youngest son of a Duke who has been sent by his father to work for Cleo's family, to stop being a womanizer and drinker. Woody expects all women to dress all "girly" and is a bit surprised by Cleo's appearance. These two people are very different from each other, yet they have much to learn. This book was a fun, oftentimes humorous, encouraging book. As Cleo learns, you are who you are and if you need to be "changed" the only way to do so, is for God to give you that ability.

I recommend this book. It was received for free from Zondervan for my honest review.

I just finished reading "Fit to Be Tied" by Robin Lee Hatcher. Zondervan sent me an advance reading copy so that I could read it and write a review on it. Even though I had not read Mrs. Hatcher's previous book in the Sisters of Bethlehem Springs Series and best seller, "A Vote of Confidence", I still found the Historical Fiction very enjoyable. The characters were believable and fun. I recommend this book for readers who enjoy a good romantic historical fiction.
