Second sight
This book caught your interest with its storyline, but Sophie left a trail anyone could have followed. It was an OK story but I just felt that something was missing.
A PLEASANT SURPRISE!
Gee, had I remembered that Kathleen Kane also wrote DREAMWEAVER, I would have never ordered this book. Thank goodness I forgot. Unlike DREAMWEAVER, this is a great book. Wonderful characters that you'll love and worry about. The not so typical woman in jeopardy book with our heroine and her young sister "blessed" with second sight. A hunky hero to take care of them. A crafty villian to threaten them. Humor, sexy love scenes. . .hey, what more could you ask? If you're looking for another good one, try NOBODY'S DARLING by Teresa Medeiros. A five star keeper!
A page turner!
The Dolan women have always been different. They see things that only God should, and people dont even pause long enough to let them explain. When Jennas life is endangered by a man who wants her gift, her sister Sophie does the only thing she can think of, she kidnaps her own sister. Tanglewood, Nevada is a small sleepy town, where Sophie believes she will be safe and unnoticed, until she meets the sheriff. This book was wonderful, a page-turner. My husband got mad at me, because I wouldnt put down the book. I simply HAD to see what happened next! The author seemed to weave a spell around her characters that pulled me in and refused to let go. Highly recommended! Reviewed by Kim Blair
A heavenly western romance
In 1889 Albany, New York, Sophie Dolan argues with Charles Vinson over the care of her half-sister Jenna. Sophie's recently deceased mother gave guardianship to Charles. He plans to lock the little girl up in a room except when he wants to use her gift for predicting the future to make his fortune on the stock market. Sophie wants Jenna to live a normal, happy life. A desperate, Sophie, accompanied by Jenna, flees to Tanglewood, Nevada where she accepts the job of schoolmarm and pretends to be a widow and Jenna's mom.

In Tanglewood, Sophie has a run in with the sheriff Ridge Hawkins when Jenna calls him "daddy." Sophie remains worried because she believes the "gift" that Jenna has is a curse since it makes people afraid. Although she has fallen in love with Ridge, Sophie assumes that the townsfolk will soon ostracize the little girl for her accurate predictions, making it time to flee again. Ridge must persuade her otherwise.

JUST WEST OF HEAVEN is a heavenly western romance that contains an amusing paranormal twist of a precocious little girl speaking out loud the future of the townsfolk. Sophie and Ridge are wonderful lead characters, but the novel belongs to Jenna who not only innocently saves lives, but also talks to the horses on a first name basis. Fan of western romances with an entertaining sidebar will fully relish Kathleen Kane's refreshing novel and search for the author's previous works such as WISH UPON A COWBOY and CATCH A FALLEN ANGEL.

Kept me giggling -- Very highly recommended
In 1880, Sophie Dolan considers the gift of sight more curse than blessing. In a world of conformity, the ability to see the future or form an empathetic connection to others merely sets her apart from the town folk of Albany, New York. Now the gift threatens to make her little sister Jenna a prisoner of her guardian's greed. Consequently, Sophie flees with the four-year-old child, answering an advertisement for a schoolteacher in Tanglewood, Nevada. Perhaps if they start over, their new anonymity will allow her to protect the child. Too bad Sophie can't hide a vibrant child like Jenna in a world of gray.

Ridge Hawkins once rode with gunmen until a good deed resulted in a pardon and a chance to start over. With a new, intense respect for the law, Ridge sees the world in black and white, never dreaming that Tanglewood's new schoolteacher will bring the concept of "shades of gray" a whole new meaning. Sophie's fiery red hair, passion for rebuilding the school and love for her "daughter" capture Ridge's imagination and set him aflame. Sophie makes this sheriff want far more than a tin star and a fast horse, but he knows she's hiding secrets. The question remains as to how Ridge will react when he realizes that Sophie's a kidnapper. Indeed, with four-year-old Jenna inexplicably insisting upon calling him Daddy, Ridge finds his heart a risk to both females.

Kathleen Kane brings a paranormal element to the Wild West, giving JUST WEST OF HEAVEN a marvelously original, entertaining flair. With strong, loveable characters, well-balanced tension and a vividly realized background, Kane brings a rare sensitivity to her writing style; indeed, JUST WEST OF HEAVEN is perfect for an afternoon's escape from the mundane. Humorous situations and repartee kept me giggling even as emotional by-play touched my heart. I couldn't put this book down as Kane wrapped me in her spell, luring me into a world of romance, friendship, and magic. Very highly recommended.

When feisty Irish beauty Bridget meets Jacob and his daughter, her heart instantly goes out to Jessica, Jacob's mute child in need of mothering, but Bridget's own tragic past could threaten her relationship with Jacob. Original.

Customer Reviews

This author has done it better
From the back cover:

She changed his life forever--with a gift of love...

Bridget
A fiesty Irish beauty, she met life's hard knocks head on. Now her heart went out to a little girl who lost herself in silence after a shattering tragedy...

Jacob
In Bridget he saw hope for his beautiful daughter Jessica. But the lawman's own heart was entwined in fear--of loving again...

Bridget also longed to quell the unexpected fires that flared between them. For if Jacob knew of her tainted past, surely he would have a changed of heart... Could they build a family from the threads of their lives? Or was their dream a whisper in the wind?

And my review:

I bought this book because I loved Catch a Fallen Angel and greatly enjoyed Dreamweaver by this author (who also writes as Maureen Child). I was hoping for a similar read. CATCH A FALLEN ANGEL and DREAMWEAVER were both wonderful historical romances with a paranormal twist.

Unfortunately, this book didn't have any paranormal in it to liven things up. Now that's not a big complaint, as my favorite genre is straightforward historical romance; I don't need a paranormal element to enjoy a good love story. However, if you've read as much historical romance as I have, you've probably read every element in this book before. The red-haired hot-tempered Irishwoman down on her luck and on the run from the law, a gold-rush boomtown, a tortured hero whose first wife was a shrew, the hero's lovely child who draws the characters together, and the one-dimensional evil villain who is intent on killing the heroine.

It's not that the story was cliche or formulamatic, it's simply that the spark I've come to expect from this author was lacking. The most compelling part of this story was watching Jessica blossom from haunted silence into a carefree little girl. The love story between Bridget and Jacob seemed to pale in comparison.

I found myself putting this book down a lot. Usually I can read a novel of this length in 2 - 3 days. This one took over a week to finish. Maybe I expected too much, given how much I've enjoyed this author's books in the past. To see what this talented author is capable of, pick up one of the other books I mentioned. They were keepers.

And my review:

This book was such a delight to read! I hardly know where to begin. I will state that Kathleen Kane also writes contemporary romances under the name Maureen Child, for anyone interested.

First off, the characters were great. I would have expected not to like a man who would literally make a deal with the Devil, yet I could see that Gabe had a heart of gold underneath his rogue exterior. Maggie was charming as well--she was more than just the cliche of a woman who can't even boil water. I loved how vibrant and alive she was. I thought that these two were a great match for one another. And the heroine's son Jake was adorable as well. Even the villains were more than just caricatures. They had motivations that the reader could understand, and even sympathize with to some extent.

I'd been starting to get sick of "small-town" books, but this one reminded me of why they are so popular. I loved the whole cast of characters, and they felt like more than just quirky cliches thrown in for laughs.

I also really liked that the hero and heroine fell in love with each other for more than just sex. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a prude, but I don't like romances where there is an overemphasis on sex. I like it as an added bonus to love, not as the sole reason for a relationship between the hero and heroine. While they were physically attracted to one another, this wasn't a "when can we hop into bed?" book. Nor was it an "I hate you, come here" story. It was refreshing to read about a couple falling in love without petty bickering, stupid misunderstandings, or overactive libidos. I also liked that the book didn't turn into a boinkfest once the hero and heroine did consummate their love, a complaint I often have with many historical romance.

I would have expected a novel where the hero makes a deal with the Devil to be dark and depressing, but this was not the case. I found myself laughing out loud several times will reading this book, and by the end, I had a serious case of the warm fuzzies. I absolutely loved the plot twist at the end. I will not give it away here--I don't want to ruin it for anyone.

I'm a VERY picky reader, but I thought this book was wonderful. Really, my only complaint is that at just over 300 pages, it was over too quickly! Recommended for anyone who reads romance.
A sigh, A cry, and once again a winner
Catch A Fallen Angel, was the second in many of Kathleen's books that I have read . She has done it again! By captivating my heart. This time with Gabe; who has an untimley death but gets a second chance with a deal made by who seems to be the devil. And there is Maggie; who thinks shes the happiest she can be with her little son Jake. And no one will forget the little town of Regret where this all takes place... Curious how it all works out?....well then you'll just have to read and find out! Trust me you wont be sorry.
A PERFECT READ FOR A COLD WINTER EVENING
If you've never read one of Kathleen Kane's magical books, give yourself a treat and read CATCH A FALLEN ANGEL (You'll want to rush out and find all her other titles the moment you finish it. ) And for other die-hard fans such as myself, Kathleen Kane has done it again and written another keeper!

This charming and quirky story will warm you from the heart out. CATCH A FALLEN ANGEL has it all. Good vs. evil. A hero with a BIG problem, a heroine who is resourceful, determined and tenacious, an adorable little boy.

As always the name Kathleen Kane is synonymous with a fabulous read.

As good as her other books
The book is very good. It is about a gambler named Gabriel who got hung for a crime he didn't do. The devil came to him after he died and gave him an extra month of life if he'll get the real criminal. In his quest to find his buddy, the real criminal, he worked for Maggie who is a widow with a son. It was kinda easy to guess that Maggie was his buddy's daughter. That's the way stories go. You could probably tell that they'll fall in love since this is a romance. Anyway, everything ended up fine in the end. The ending was very funny too. You have to read it.
Absolutely magical!
Catch a Fallen Angel is WONDERFUL! Kathleen Kane has done it again. Her 'Fallen Angel,' Gabe is so real he leaps off the page with a vibrance that only Kathleen Kane can do! She brings the west to life so effortlessly that you can taste the dust of Nevada and feel the six shooter on your hip. Gabe is my favorite hero of hers so far (I know there will be more to come) and I felt his pain and his hunger for a good life and a woman to love so deeply I cried for him and his unusal heroine, Maggie. Maggie lights up a room, and her lack of ability to cook for her own restaurant is a riot. I loved every word! Bravo!

Carried westward to a small Colorado town by her zest for life, Abby finds love in the most unlikely place as she boldly draws a gentle, reclusive man out from his self-imposed solitude. Original.

Customer Reviews

A naked giant stood in the doorway,....
..a rifle held in one of his huge hands.

Ok, this is the first sentence of the book and I wondered how it was going to read.

Samuel, a big man leary of his own strength meets Abby, a petite woman who loves life. This was a silly light romance about a man who learned about love and relationships with others. He was a pessimist, she was an optimist. He thought he didn't need others only to find out how lonely he was before meeting Abby. The plot was sort of goofy and I wanted to knock Samuel's head a few times for acting so mule-headed but it was meant to be a fluffy story and I liked it. Not great but not bad.
Every heart has love to give...
True love sparkles inside the most unlikely hearts. They made an odd couple-he towered above her;she was as dainty as a china doll-but they found in each other a love as big and bountiful as the Colorado mountains.

Charming
I found this story to be charming and funny. It seemed a little predictable at times and rushed at others but it had the entertainment value that I look for in a book.
A sweet, old-fashioned, charmer of a love story
Charms is light-hearted with likable characters and set in a small town filled with busy bodies. The heroine, Leda, comes from a long line of woman who had the "sight". When she was just a girl her Mom drew a picture of the man she was going to marry & when she finally meets him she's so excited she nearly knocks him over with her ecstatic kiss. He's stunned to say the least. He's an uptight Doctor and doesn't want anything to do with the crazy gypsy girl who is stealing all of his patients (she's a faith healer) and keeps calling him "My love". But she's persistant and before he realizes what has happened she's moved her crystal ball & herbs into his office and soon he realizes he wonders how he ever got along without her. This was a really cute story, with lots of sweet characters and wow was it ever sensual. I was a bit surprised by just how sensual it was. Kane's newer books fall into the sensual category but for some reason I thought the older ones were of the "sweet" variety. Anyway, I was pleasantly surprised ;)

Description

Delilah Brown, formerly nothing more than a girl from the hood-wanna be superstar, now finds herself on top of the world and the music charts. Living the so-called American dream, Delilah is proof that all good things come to those who wait. But when this pop phenom is found dead, she only proves that all good things come to an end. There are too many whispering rumors and circumstances surrounding her death, and too little time to determine the facts. Was it an accident? Was it murder? The list of suspects grows as Delilah's gangster rapper boyfriend is one of the first to be blamed. But, then there is her incarcerated jealous ex-boyfriend. Could he have anything to do with it? Not to mention her envious former group members that she had left behind to become a solo act. Last, but not least, there is her cruel record executive who couldn't stand to see her in the arms of another man. Just when it seems as though the case is about to turn as cold as the dead diva's body, her grieving grandmother stumbles upon her diary. The pages of Delilah's intimate thoughts are just as intriguing and suspenseful as the pages of this explosive novel. Diva gives readers an eye-opening glimpse into the lavish world of a music megastar. It proves, as the old saying goes, that everything that glitters ain't gold.

Good and Quick
This book follows the life of a hiphop/r and b superstar. It was a story which read quick. It was impressive as a follow up to their other outing, Eyes Of a Killer/Behind Enemy Lines. Though the second story from them, it reads just like the first which has a twist. I was impressed and those who haven't read it is missing out.
keeps you wanting more
this book is excellent a real page turner read the whole book in one day i couldnt put it down
I give it NEGATIVE stars!
It insulted my intelligence to be give this book as a gift. As a matter of fact, I felt stupider for having wasted my time reading it. The publishers should be ashamed of putting this into print and promoting it to 'urban' youth. I pray that none of my students will ever read this type of nonsense.
Drina's Reviews
this book was off the chain. I finished reading this book in about 3 hours that is how good this book is. Will recommend this book for others to read.
One star only because I couldn't give it no stars
This was one of the worst books I have ever read. Boring, Boring, boring. I can read a good book and 4 hours, it took me three days to read this book. I was at work doing work instead of reading. I would nap on the train and bus rather then read this book. I can't even tell you how I managed to read the book other then force myself. In fact this book looks just like it was brand knew in my collection. Because I was only read one, while books like Thugs and the women who love them, Torn, and Me and my Boyfriend look like I had the a hundred years because they have been read over and over again. Don't waste your money. I seen Kane and Abel havent' put out another book. Thank God for that!!!
