ODonnell Lillian
Goddess Affair
List Price:
$5.99
Description
CRUISING WITH A KILLER Fellow vacationers aboard the cruise ship Dante Aligheri agree that the rich Aldrich sisters are not without their flaws. Clever Diana is not quite clever enough. Poor Juno is drab and overweight. Minerva has beauty and brains but seems terribly ill. And one of them will soon die an ugly death. Private Investigator Gwenn Ramadge is lured in to investigate the tragedy and soon finds herself caught up in a shipboard full of greed, despair and mayhem.
What Lillian O'Donnell does so well here is what she has always done in her various series: she creates a recognizable lead character--New York private detective Gwen Ramadge--who gets to live the adventures we wish we had the time and courage to live. In this outing, Gwen is trying to nab a jewel thief on a cruise ship when the murder of a famous fashion designer takes precedence. Wit, craft and human values combine to give the book an afterlife. Other O'Donnells available in paperback include Lockout, The Raggedy Man, and Used to Kill.

Excellent Mystery!
The Goddess Affair is an excellent mystery that occurs on a cruise ship and involves three sisters named Minerva, Juno & Diana. This mystery kept me hopping trying to figure it out. I was definitely wrong about the murderer. The 3 sisters are involved in clothing design. Minerva is dying of cancer so the sisters think this cruise would be a good idea. Or do they really believe that?

Boring
Another book I would never have read, were it not required for class. The story itself was boring, but the most bothersome part of the novel is that the author never stuck to a single narrator.
Normally, that would not annoy me; however, in this instance, she would utilize more than one person on the page, without any forewarning. This often threw me out of the story, which I already found lacking.

Blue Death
List Price:
$22.95
Description
At forty-one, Norah Mulcahaney's star is on the rise: She's passed the rigorous NYPD's captain's exam, and she's also succeeded in adopting a baby boy. But, her happiness is shattered when, within a month's time, four of her fellow officers commit suicide, each man found dead of a wound inflicted by his own service revolver. When Norah's longtime mentor, Chief James Felix, asks her to pay a visit to one of the grieving widows, Norah finds herself immersed in a controversial case that hits way too close to home. Chief Felix very nearly becomes the fifth victim, compelling Norah to prove the deaths are murder, not suicide. It's a race against time--before another of New York City's finest is laid to rest forever. With a plot that will keep O'Donnell's fans guessing, Blue Death is a gripping addition to the Norah Mulcahaney series.

Doesn't add up
The author attempts, like most in this time, for a far-out metaphorical premise that can somehow tie the whole thing together into movie rights, eventually; yet, despite all this planning, and the daily life resemblances of its characters, it is very predictable in that there's a hidden catch which literally divides the book in two -- once you know one detail of backstory, the entire thing comes together like a four-piece jigsaw puzzle and the rest is reading to fill. I wouldn't bother.

Thriller, page turner, and intense.
Lillian O'Donnell puts you into an amazingly real New York setting. Once you start reading, you feel as if you have to keep reading to see who kidnapped the boy and why the guy is stalking women in subway stations and when the detectives are gonna crack the case. If you like stories having to do with murder and ransom and so forth, read this book.
