the very best!!!!!!
adventure and romance at its very best! it is contempory and has really powerful christian message.
Excellent
This was my first read of Catherine Palmer. Excellent!!! Good message and good adventure!!
Best of whole series!
I have read all four books in this series, and have to say that this is by far the best! I love the adventure, and how it never really let up. A great book! Clean, but a good romance too. Graeme is a studmuffin, and Tillie a great girl who seems to love adventure as much as I do!:)A must read for anyone sick of tired over-done plots, this one is definitely original! It was interesting to learn about the different cultures (a.k.a the Tuareg) and I loved that it was set in Africa. Also... Bachelor's Bargain by Catherine Palmer is great! Enjoy!
Exciting read; four and a half stars (I rounded up)
I must say that this is my favorite Catherine Palmer book to date. I've only read a few of her books, but I was very surprised and pleased with this one. Having grown up in Kenya (just as Catherine Palmer did), I definitely enjoyed all of the Africa facts and language--I got homesick just reading it! The plot was very interesting, though it was confusing at times, and I had to read certain parts twice to understand what was going on. The romance was wonderful, and the characters were written very well. I would definitely recommend this book, and I can't wait to read the other books in the series!
Adventurous Christian romance
"A Kiss of Adventure" is an adventurous, passionate telling of a kidnapping, chase, and treasure hunt set in Africa. I was especially impressed with the realistic description of the dilemmas that accompany an attraction to a non-Christian. Thank you for a balanced, introspective book!

Description

In book two of this fiction series based on the best-selling non-fiction book The Four Seasons of Marriage, readers meet the blended family of Derek and Kim Finley. Kim has a set of twins—one boy and one girl—from her first marriage; Luke has recently been diagnosed with diabetes, and Lydia is acting out as a result of the attention now being showered on Luke. To complicate matters, Derek's overbearing mother comes to live with them. With all that's going on in their lives, Kim and Derek's communication begins to break down and their marriage slowly moves into winter. Although the second book will focus on Kim and Derek, readers will also encounter all their favorite characters—Patsy Pringle, Pete Roberts, Steve and Brenda, Esther and Charlie—as well as some new ones, like the proprietor of the new sandwich shop that's moved in next to Patsy's beauty parlor.

Seasons of Love - Gary Chapman
OMW!! I have this whole series and I just adore it! The characters are so great! You are guaranteed to find someone to relate to in this 4 book series located in a small lake community in Arkansas and I would be surprised if you don't just fall in love with Cody and his passion for chocolate cake cut into squares.
Great Read
Loved this series of books. All were very easy to relate to no matter what season your marriage is in.
the seasons of relationship
Summer Breeze, by Catherine Palmer and Gary Chapman, is one of a series of four novels based on the seasons of relationships described in Chapman's The Four Seasons of Marriage. This is the first of the series I've read but I'm definitely looking for the other three.

Recently I heard Pam and Bill Farrel on the radio, discussing their book Men Are Life Waffles - Women Are Like Spaghetti, so it was especially interesting to follow the characters of Derek and Kim in this book and see how they fit the Farrels' categories. Derek, the water patrolman, wants to keep the areas of his life in neatly separated boxes (the sections of the waffle) while Kim sees everything as being intertwined (like pieces of spaghetti) and reacts accordingly. Predictably, their different perspectives and their different love languages create some tense moments.

I also enjoyed eavesdropping as Derek's neighbor Charlie explains how he used fishing techniques (empathetic listening) to resolve a touchy situation with his wife. Derek is a quick learner and puts the ideas in play with his step-daughter and later his wife, who then uses them successfully with her mother-in-law.

Altogether an entertaining book with some interesting lessons hidden inside. Recommended!

Strong Women
As with the 1st book, depicted women are strong and faithful to their faith, however I find them somewhat unbending and rather shrewish, while the men are silently strong and see the women as difficult to get along with. I'd like a better balance.
Summer Breeze- Hot Topics
Patsy Pringle's hair salon takes the area's pulse within its newly formed group, The Tea Lovers' Club. It allows the ladies to share their good news and their worries. In Book Two of this series, Kim Finley is center stage. Her mother-in-law, Miranda, has come to visit indefinitely and care for the twins, and nothing Kim does is right. Kim's concern over her daughter Lydia's rebellious actions and worry over Luke's diabetes is very stressful. How will she handle Derek's perfectly put together mother? And how will Derek manage the two women he loves most?

The citizens have adopted Cody Goss, a homeless man, and when Miranda orchestrates his leaving, no one is happy about it. This mother-in-law has stirred up more than one family.

Chapman and Palmer have created characters who share real down-to-earth problems. Their blend of humor and honesty sheds a revealing light at how God would have us handle life's stressors.

Fast moving and well written
All three books in this series by Catherine Palmer are fun to read with Africa as an interesting setting. She describes the land so well it is the unspoken character in the books. The human characters each struggle in realistic ways to surrender their wills and faults to Christ. I really enjoyed this series and would recommend it. A Touch of Betrayal (Treasures of the Heart Series #3)A Kiss of Adventure (Treasures of the Heart Series #1) it.
Another good one!
There was so much bitterness in Jessie, I almost put the book down and walked away. I'm so glad I didn't though! Different pace from the first book, but still excellent!!!
As good, if not better than the first!
I grew up in Kenya (just as Catherine Palmer did), and so reading this book was like reading about home. I nearly cried in some parts! While this book is not as adventurous and fast-paced as "A Kiss of Adventure", the plot is much more believable and easier to follow. The story of Jessica and Rick is absolutely beautiful, and extremely well-written. Likewise, I was very impressed with the writing in the parts from Spencer's point of view.

This is one of the best Palmer books I've ever read, and I would highly recommend it. You can tell that her knowledge of African ways comes from experience, and not research, and it makes the book so much more enjoyable. A must-read!
Beautiful!
This book, like the others in this series, is set in Africa. The author packs it full of history and details current to their culture today. The romance is touching and exciting. A beautiful read!
Wonderful Love Story!
I could absolutely not put this book down! It is sooo good. I loved how Catherine Palmer wove the story together gracefully. Nothing dull at all. Nothing inapropriatte in the least which is hard to find any more! The Treasures of the Heart series doesn't have to be read in order at all, and I think this is the best one to start with. You will not be disapointed!!!!!

Hide and Seek (Finders Keepers #2)
For anyone who enjoys a good Christian Romance, this book is great. Good story line, fun and entertaining. Catherine Palmner is an excellent author and her books are well worth reading.
I loved this one also
After I had read Finders Keepers and finished it I could not wait to get started on this one. I laughed and cried throughout the book. It is a excellient book I would recommend it to anyone.
its okay
Are you a bookworm going on vacation or to the beach? Then take this easy read with you. It's not very well written, its formulaic, predictable, and a little cheesy. I thought that the book "It had to be you by Linda Windsor" was better written and a more compatible companion if you want a beach read.

Customer Reviews

Three short stories - different -but worth reading!
In the first story Catherine Palmer returns to the town called Hope and picks up the lives of the familiar characters. A surprising twist makes this one especially good. The second story is by a relatively new author to me, but now I will read more of hers since this one is great...The last is an entirely new concept to me, that of the courtship of a senior couple. Most Christian romance stories steer away from those folks in their sunset years, but this one is sweet and believable. I would recommend this book. Each author gives the reader a glance into her own life and some interesting recipes are included as well.
A must read.
Catherine Palmer has again written a fabulous book. In this anthology she revisits a town called Hope and tells the story of Rolf Rustemeyer. I have read all of the books in the 'A town called Hope' series and this story lets me revisit my favourite series. Readers can also watch the lovable German farmer Ralf find his true love of the Kansas praire.

Included in this anthology are stories by Elizabeth White and Peggy Stoks. Both of these women are fabulous authors and their love for the Lord is evident in their stories. Annie and Betsy make wonderful heroines and I fell in love with them as well as their men, Seneca Jones and Elmore Determan.

This book is a must read for all Catherine Palmer fans and everyone who loved the 'A town called Hope' series.

The one star reviewers are reviewing a different book
All the reviewers who rated this book before me and gave it 1 star are actually reviewing the book "THE AFFECTIONATE ADVERSARY", which I found to be pretty boring. In fact all but three of the other reviewers were rating that book. "Thread of Deceit" has a contemporary setting and deals with child abuse. The other book is set in the victorian era.
Easily one of the best books I've ever read!
Please note that at the time I write this, many of the reviews on this page are for a different Catherine Palmer book that apparently many people were not fond of. Please don't let them make you shy away from reading this book. Thread of Deceit is easily one of the best books I have ever read, and I am a voracious reader.
Without giving too much of the book away, let me say that this is a story you will feel deeply. The overall subject matter is a serious one, though there are definately light and funny moments throughout the book. It is an emotional read; one that will move you and stick with you. I initially read Thread of Deceit only as a "prequel" to Palmer's next Haven book "Stranger in the Night" and found that this book was FAR better than the description made it sound. The characters are believable, lovable despite some obvious quirks, and their past pain is palpable without being overdone.
On a side note, I was able to figure out quite early on who the "bad guy" of the book really was, but this in no way really detracted from this very moving story. I was up until 2 AM last night because I couldn't put the thing down. It is written from a Christian perspective, and mentions of God and church are woven seamlessly throughout the story. For those of you against such things, I would encourage you to not let that stop you from what really is a great read and very, very moving story.
the other reviews are for not for the same book
this book is about a reporter who goes to a community center to report about lead paint. she comes across an abused girl, a boy who lives in the projects, and the director of the center. she becomes friends with them and writes about the lead paint and the members of the coomunity center. the book is contemporay. i have no idea what book the other people are reviewing. i enjoyed the story and it is worth reading.
Wonderful, suspensful, captivating!!!
This book is a departure from Catherine Palmer's Victorian style, and it is fantastic!! The storyline deals with a reporter assigned to do a story, and how she ends up solving a mystery, saving a little girl, and falling in love. The author shows how sometimes a child knows who is trustworthy better than adults do, and the pitfalls of making assumptions without having all the facts. She also shows how trust, once lost, is not easy to regain, even between good friends. Even with all the struggles the characters face, good does triumph and the guy gets the girl. This is one of Cathy's best books!
Redundant tripe...
What happens when two people who are meant to be together meet during tragic circumstances? They fall in love. And it seems that they'd be happy together, except that one of them makes it difficult, putting unreasonable obstacles in their path. Sarah Carlyle and Charles Locke meet on a ship from India to England. The year is 1814. Charles's ship suffers from a pirate attack. The pirates steal his fortune -- the fortune that would have established his trade in the tea business. He barely survives the attack, and is taken to another ship. Sarah Carlyle looks after him. A young, rich widow, she has found that her calling is to become a missionary, and plans to give away all of her fortune to the poor. She also plans to live in poverty somewhere in India. She insists that God has this purpose for her. Back in England, Charles is smitten with the plain but caring Mrs. Carlyle. Except that she's not Mrs. Carlyle but Lady Delacroix, a rich widow of noble blood. He wants to get ahead in life, have financial security for his family. She wants him to give up his dreams and join her in a life of homelessness and poverty in India. Who's right and who's wrong?

Sarah is the most annoying heroine I have read in quite a long time! She irritated her sisters and she irritated me. She wants to give away all of her fortune and live like a homeless person in a foreign country. Who on earth would agree with such a thing? And why on earth would she think that God wants her to do this? Charles's plans to get ahead in life are sensible, but Sarah thinks that he's only after her patronage. So, for 325 pages, you will read one scene after one tiring scene centered on this "romantic obstacle." The story is redundant to the point of being coma-inducing. I almost threw the book across the room when Sarah and Charles began to argue about the same thing for the fifth (or was it the sixth?) time. Ugh. The secondary characters are one-dimensional and uninteresting, including Sarah's sassy sisters. The Miss Pickworth thing (gossip column) seemed interesting, but got lost in all of the nonsense. The Jane Austen throwbacks are cute at first, but they too become boring and repetitive after a while. Whenever Palmer used some modifier of a Jane Austen quote or passage (dialogue like, "Be not alarmed madam...," and the thing about "ardent love," characters playing whist, the sisters giggling and flirting, etc.), I had to stop reading. The writing style was too close to Austen to the point that it seemed almost plagiaristic. I enjoy Christian/inspirational fiction, I love historical novels (Regency is a favorite right after Victorian) and the romantic in me wants a little lovin' thrown in the stories I read (it doesn't have to be the main plot though), but I also want them to be well written. This one was not. I have no other choice but to give The Affectionate Adversary one star. I wanted to like it, I really did. Catherine Palmer seems to be a popular author in this genre. I hope her other books are better than this.
