Description

The #1 New York Times-bestselling author presents a riveting novel where a canine search and rescue volunteer fights danger and finds love in the Pacific Northwest wilderness.

To most people, Fiona Bristow seems to have an idyllic life-a quaint house on an island off Seattle's coast, a thriving dog-training school, and a challenging volunteer job performing canine search and rescues. Not to mention her three intensely loyal Labs. But Fiona got to this point by surviving a nightmare...

Several years ago, Fiona was the only survivor of the Red Scarf serial killer, who shot and killed Fiona's cop fiancé and his K-9 partner.

On Orcas Island, Fiona found the peace and solitude she needed to rebuild her life. But all that changes on the day Simon Doyle barrels up her drive, desperate for her help. He's the reluctant owner of an out-of-control puppy, foisted upon him by his mother. Jaws has eaten through Simon's house, and he's at his wit's end.

To Fiona, Jaws is nothing she can't handle. Simon, however, is another matter. A newcomer to Orcas, he's a rugged and in-tensely private artist, known for the exquisite furniture he creates from wood. Simon never wanted a puppy-and he most definitely doesn't want a woman. Besides, the lanky redhead is not his type. But tell that to his hormones.

As Fiona embarks on training Jaws, and Simon begins to appreciate both dog and trainer, the past tears back into Fiona's life. A copycat killer has emerged out of the shadows, a man whose bloodlust has been channeled by a master with one motive: to reclaim the woman who slipped out of his hands...

Disappointing...
I found it really telling that it took me so long to finish this book. With a really engrossing book (action, characters, descriptions, research, etc) I can't put it down, and if I have to, I run back to it when I have a free moment. Not so with this book...it took me weeks to finish because it just didn't hold my attention.

Other reviewers found the dog sections overdone. I actually enjoyed that, but I am a dog person. I didn't like Simon and found it hard to believe Fiona would, being the woman she is. He's bossy and irritating, and spends the book telling her he didn't want to fall in love with her. Okay, then, well DON'T! is what I'd say. I actually liked her, Syl, the vet, and the search team descriptions, but their romance just didn't ring true.

There's this big buildup to the ending, and instead of an explosive ending with this killer, all we got was a weak firecracker going off. Serious letdown.

I've been reading Nora for years, and hands down have always loved her stories. This one felt phoned in, and I'm very disappointed.
Not her best
I'm not sure how I feel about this book. I love Nora, and really appreciate her stories that have an actual story line and not just 2 people meet, fall in love... This book has a great storyline. The problem I found is that it was awkward. Some of the things the characters say just didn't make sense. I don't know if it was a new style of writing, or if it just wasn't edited well, but it was confusing. I'd have to stop and read the sentence a few times before I figured out what they were talking about. The story moved slowly, and while I found the dog training and rescue scenes interesting, there were too many of them. A good Nora read, but not totally memorable.
Bad Seller
I never received this order from this seller and would not recommend dealing with them. They never answered my e-mails and never shipped the order. Amazon had to credit my account themselves. Do not deal with this seller.
A PAGE TURNER!
The Search is a strong romantic suspense. It was a good serial murder read but had a lot of places to laugh also. Fiona Bristow is strong, smart and determined, but she's also warm, lovable, and likeable. Years ago, Fiona Bristow had the perfect life, a great fiance, an upcoming wedding, a loving family. Then the Red Scarf Killer entered her world. She was his only survivor. Her fiance and his police K-9 partner were dead. To help recover from the terrifying ordeal, Fiona moves to Orcas Island and starts a canine obedience and search and rescue training school. Since then, she's managed to find peace and be content with her life, until.....

Other good ones are FLY AWAY HOME, EXPLOSION IN PARIS, COLD ROCK RIVER, LET'S TAKE THE LONG WAY HOME.

I really liked this one
As a die-hard J.D. Robb fan and only occasional mainstream Roberts reader, I was absolutely delighted with The Search. Of course, being a dog lover might have had a minor positive influence. This book is the best stand alone Nora Roberts tale that I've read for some time. Now if Indulgence in Death would just hurry up and get here!

VERY tedious.....
I had this book loaned for three weeks and could not get through it. Needless to say, I had to borrow it again so I can finish it. Given the fact that I am a very fast reader,it disappoints me that this book just cannot keep my interest. Maybe NR should stick to her murder/romance genre instead?
Can't wait for the final installment!
The three books of The Bride Quartet I have read have all been hard to put down. Nora Roberts writes a great story.
B-o-r-i-n-g
In a word: Boring. The characters in the third book of NR's bride quartet are flat, undeveloped and, well....boring. There's no story line, no suspense, nothing of interest. While I like her new style of snappy dialogue, it gets to be repetitive. Very disappointing from a leader of the genre.
OK, but not the best in the series
I really liked Vision in White. I thought it was fresh, lively and interesting. I loved the premise and the world of Vows and really enjoyed Mac and Carter's story.

Savor the Moment was hard to get through. Though Nora Roberts' skill with dialogue and plotting is unmatched, there just wasn't enough conflict in Savor the Moment to make it a page-turner. I liked Lauren and Del, but their story just never quite got going for me.

Sorry--I wanted to love this.
Bride Quartet - Book 3
I am huge fan of Nora Roberts but I have been pretty disappointed with this series. I did like Mac's story but didn't even finish Emma (skipped right to the end) and this one is heading toward the same fate. I just cannot like these women for some reason and the details on each of their skills can be too much. Also, for some reason the 'slang' or abbreviated way she has these women speaking has been getting on my nerves. I like Del and thought he could do better than Laurel and find a nicer woman, which I guess is a bad sign in a romance novel. Anyway, I will never give up on Nora because I enjoy so much of her work.....but this series has been disappointing. I might give Parker's story a shot, but at this point, not sure I care enough. This is so far from great stories like Carolina Moon that I wish that Nora would come back!

Description

Margo Sullivan had everything she could ask for. The daughter of the Templetons' stern housekeeper, she was treated like a member of the family. But money could not buy the thing she craved most-her mother's acceptance...
Set in Monterey, California, this first novel in the Dream trilogy features Margo Sullivan, the feisty and beautiful daughter of a wealthy family's housekeeper. She's been offered the same privileges as the Templeton children, but Margo resents handouts. She feels she has much to prove to herself, her surrogate family, and her mother. Margo dreams big--she wants wealth, fame, and success--but she doesn't want anyone else's help. Her plan is to go as far away from home as possible, so she starts with Hollywood and then moves on to Europe, where she finds fame as a supermodel. But when her world comes crashing down around her, Margo discovers that reaching out for help--especially to your family--can be just as challenging and rewarding as solving your problems on your own.

A thought provoking start to a new trilogy
I am a big fan of Nora Roberts, especially her trilogies - there's something utterly delicious about knowing that when you finish one book, there's another one ready for you. I was a little unsure of how I would enjoy this book. Like many of the reviewers, I wondered if I would ever warm to Margo. She probably encapsulates everything most women dislike about gorgeous model types, however as I stayed with the story, I found that Margo did get into my heart. Yes, she's brash, cocky and totally beautiful but when you get past her facade, to me she is a woman that I would be proud to call a friend.
I loved her spats with Josh and her vulnerability at times got to to me. Her desire to be someone, to be a success because she thinks it's the only way the people around her will really think anything of her reminds me of a lot of people and I enjoyed the ride I took with Margo. She made me laugh out loud at times and I loved her for this. (I don't normally laugh out loud when I'm reading!)
A book that you will enjoy and be sorry to put down.
domestic violence is so sexy
I'm not familiar with the Romance genre. I thought I'd try something new, recognized Roberts' name from the bestseller lists, and bought this thing. Mistake. I only got to page 256, so read my review with that in mind.

This book features: poor writing (unsignalled point of view shifts happen multiple times), shallow and unlikeable characters with little or no actual emotional attachment to one another, and a control freak hero who constantly demeans and belittles the heroine. During arguments he also grabs her, slings her around like a caveman, topples her into a full bathtub and holds her head under the water.

But its not violence because he looooves her? It's okay because it just shows how passionate and out of control he is over her? Or maybe its okay because he's being playful. As long as he doesn't *intend* to hurt her that makes it all right, right? Seriously, I cannot imagine in what world anyone would find this behavior romantic. It certainly isn't legal.

Anyway, I threw the book in the trash.
Enjoyable
Very easy read. I have never read nora roberts but this book will keep me coming back for more. It is very seductive and has alot of very sensual scenes in the book. I really enjoyed it.
UGH!---
Two shallow people end up together after a lot of whining and bickering. They deserved each other and I deserved a better story that didn't waste my time.
Great story
Nora Roberts is a great story teller, she knows how to keep you interested in her books. This triology makes you want to buy all the books. Its a great tale of three friends that were all from totally different families and who became the best of friends who were there whenever they were in trouble. No matter what family crisis arose, they could always count on each other. You show them as they were growing up and all the problems that each encountered. It was nice seeing them search for a hidden treasure all their lives and finally find it when they least expected it. It was a great finish to the books. I would highly recommend it to anyone who is a Nora Roberts fan.

Rose in Bloom
The second in her "Bride Quartet" series Roberts didn't fail in providing me the escape I was looking for. A quick and easy read we follow Emma, a florist in her partners wedding business, as she overcomes her single girl ways to catch the man of her dreams. It just so happens that this man is also an old friend of her extended family at Vows.

The lighter and more entertaining tone of this story is an improvement over the first book's more somber focus. For this reason I found myself enjoying Emma's story much more than Mac's. Filled with fun and sass Bed of Roses still carries a very strong Sex and the City vibe. I would certainly recommend it to any reader who enjoys strong friendships and decent (if not a little predictable) romance.

As I read the book I quickly came to the conclusion that the most appealing aspect of the story is still the tight bond the four main characters embrace. Even as their circle of friends and family grows around them, these ladies are a strong foundation on which they can all build and rely. Roberts has done a fine job of creating four distinct women, with great individuality. There is a bit of mob mentality when defending their own but even that is somewhat light-hearted in nature. Furthermore, the romantic pairings created were equally enjoyable as the mix of male personalities and dynamics of circumstance added to the diversity of emotion.

Roberts is straight forward in her dialogue, she doesn't feel the need to write copious amounts of flowery prose. I appreciate a story that gets right to the point and Roberts' ability to do so made Bed of Roses all that more pleasurable for me. As a reader one of the more enjoyable parts of the story were those in which she focuses on the quick witted banter all four ladies are capable of. It was entertaining, humorous and made me long for the days when I was surrounded by the people who know me so well they could finish my sentences.

I admit, there wasn't much in the way of earth shattering innovation with this story. It was exactly what I expected filled with secret longing, relationship phobia, a few obstacles to overcome and then some not so stunning revelations on all parties parts. I fall just short of saying it's formulaic as there were certainly differences between how Robert's approached the first book in the series as compared to the second. But, at times I did find find myself able to predict what was coming down the pike.

Regardless of that, Bed of Roses was an engaging and witty read I didn't want to put it down. In fact I finished it in one sitting.
Talk about a double standard!
I love Nora Roberts and enjoyed the first book of the quartet, but this one made me so angry I could barely force myself to finish it and I have NO desire to read the remaining two. The entire premise of the first book was that Mac (the woman) was commmitment-phobic and Carter (the man) was supposed to be supportive and non-pressuring until she came to realize commitment wasn't so bad after all. But in Bed of Roses, the tables are turned when it's the man who dares to be commitment-phobic when the woman wants a ring. Emma spends the entire book saying that she understands Jack is shy of commitment and she's okay with that, then the second SHE realizes she's in love and wants more, he's supposed to immediately drop to one knee. It's only about what she wants and not a bit about his emotions or needs. And all of the others -- the very people who had been warning Emma the entire time not to get carried away because Jack wasn't big on commitment -- immediately jumped on her bandwagon and forced Jack to dance to her tune. It was incredibly infuriating, especially in light of the first book. I didn't think NR could write a book I didn't enjoy, but this was it!!
The steamiest of the Quartet
The relationship between Emma and Jack heats up the pages of the 2nd of the series. Long time friends, the relationship sneaks up on them and once it does you can't put the book down. A very sweet conclusion where the two finally get together with a little help from Parker.
A Great Second Book in the Bride Quartet Series
I couldn't wait to start this one after I read the first book "Vision in White." I love series because I get attached to the characters. I love being able to pick up the next book and see what happens to them. This in a definate must read. I've read this one twice (once in paperback and once on my kindle). I'll probably re-read it again as soon as the 4th book comes out.
The Bride Quartet, Book 2
Loved book and can't wait for the last quartet to arrive in November! Great book about friendship!

Customer Reviews

Nora Roberts is a word genius!
I have been reading Nora Roberts and JD Robb books now for years. I am a mother of four and wife of one, I look after our business, our home, our pets, our kids.....the list goes on. If you want some down time to just escape for a couple of hours - hers are the books to get. She will have you so completely wrapped up in reading that you feel like you are a participant within the story. Her trilogies or the Brides Quartet (?) are amazing. She has a truly amazing gift!
SERIOUSLY?
okay, have read 2 of the books in this series and loved them both. A bit quirky and a lot of fun. However, how is it possible that Amazon is selling the kindle edition, that cannot be shared or passed along to others, for 3 dollars more than the hardback copy that can be enjoyed by friends and family. Helps me to squelch my desire to purchase a kindle.
Something's off...
While I did not love this book, it's grabbed my attention enough that I want to read the others in the series.

First off, I thought Carter was the cutest thing. He was so sweet and funny and adorable. A really kind hero.

The problem was, Mac was just...so irrational. Her reasons for doing things made absolutely no sense. When she said, "I have feelings for you, Carter... And that's why I'm telling you we need to step back," I wanted to shake her. Hello?!!! He just told you he feels more than attraction to you and he really cares for you, and you tell him, "I feel the same, so let's break up"?! There was something seriously messed up about her thinking.

And you think it gets resolved with the whole emotionally abusive mother thing, right? Wrong.

Second problem, the mother: she absolutely was a selfish, self-absorbed bitch. But the way that Mac reacted to her was so.....defeated. I understand the direction Nora was trying to go in: the tough girl outside, with a sad inner confidence problem because of a family issue. But she failed at it.

Third, and most commonly, the things she writes, the dialogue, those repetitive clique things she writes over and over and over, are seriously the most annoying thing in the whole book. Who says those things anyway? Where did she grow up?

And, to add something that another reviewer mentioned, high school crushes are the stupidest things to write a romance novel about. They're adults now, no one cares.
I anticipate every new Nora Roberts book
I am always eager for a new series from Nora Roberts and this one does not let you down. The first book develops the setting for the next three. The only thing that seems a little contrived is Mac's relationship with her mother. It's just bad enought to filter through the series but really doesn't pack a lot of punch. However, it's still a page turner and what woman doesn't like weddings? I could also relate to how the women circle the wagons during a crisis and always have each other's backs. But, they will still joke and tease each other like real girlfriends do. You won't be dissappointed.
Amazing Start to an Amazing Quartet
I LOVED this book. I've read it twice in the last 8 mo - once in paperback and then on my kindle. This was one of my first "nonfree" kindle book purchase. A friend from work bought this book and lent it to me about 8 months ago and I was hooked. This book was a page turner for me and I read it in about a day because I couldn't put it down. If you like romanace novels, you definately need to read this one.
